What is a Childcare Apprenticeship

Not everyone wants or can afford to study childcare in a full time capacity. An Australian apprenticeship (also known in some states as a traineeship) allows employees to gain valuable experience in the early learning industry with on the job training all while you obtain your nationally recognised qualification.

How to find a childcare worker apprenticeship?

Applying for an apprenticeship in Australia is similar to the way one would apply for a regular job, your will need to get your resume up and prepare a cover letter. Most positions will be advertised on job search websites such as Seek or Indeed, you can also visit your local state government website to see how they can help you in your search. How much do childcare workers earn in Australia?

The average wage for an Australian apprentice who is studying the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care is between $32,000 and $33,000 per year. But remember this is only the start of your career and the childcare industry in Australia is booming, good qualified childcare workers are in demand. So don’t limit yourself,  study hard and work your way up to obtaining your Diploma Of Early Childhood Education and Care and who know where it could take you.

  • Manage the children’s behaviour and guides around the children’s social development
  • Entertaining children by reading and engaging with them as well as playing games
  • The preparation and implementation of childrens activities
  • The supervision of childrens daily routine as well as their recreational activities

An apprenticeship in childcare (also known as child care aide or early childhood educator)  can lead to a successful career and some very rewarding roles depending on your chosen qualification, please keep in mind that each position will require a different level of qualification, here are a few of the more popular roles:

Getting a foot in the door isn’t always easy and positions can be competitive. If you find you are struggling to find someone to to you on consider giving yourself an advantage by first completing the certificate II. This may be just the things to ensure you stand out from the crowd and show potential employer that you mean business and take the opportunity seriously. You should also conciser completing first Aid, CPR, Anaphylaxis, and Asthma Awareness training as well as obtaining  a working with children licence.
